runDisney: Halloween Costumes
If you’re planning on running a RunDisney race this year you’re going to want to put together a training program. Plan out your vacation. Read up on nutrition and hydration. Pick out a costume. That’s right, many people choose to dress in costume for a runDisney event. Some are very simple: a technical shirt and a tutu. Some are very committed: full bodied Goofy costume. If that sounds like something you want to do then now is the best time to find a costume.
Pop up Halloween stores, WalMart, Target, Party City, any store that sold costumes before Halloween have drastically reduced the prices of their costumes. Giving you the perfect opportunity to find something for your race.
Revealing adult costumes make some of the best race outfits. The short princess dresses are ideal for running in. Wear a sports bra and compression shorts underneath and you will be ready for race day. Dresses don’t seem so short when you plan on running 13.1 miles in them. Just make sure there’s no crinoline around the bodice (learned this one the hard way friends).
Even if you don’t want to wear all costume, you can find some accessories that will allow you to wear running attire while still kind of dressing up. Many of the halloween stores carry Mouse Ears and Mickey hands. We picked up some Buzz Lightyear wings for my son to use for dress up. Pair these with a white tee and green shorts. You’re buzz lightyear. Don’t forget that Marvel is a part of Disney now, so many superhero costumes are perfect. Grab a Thor shield, you could totally run with one of those for a shorter race. Just don’t forget that masks are not allowed to be worn during these races.
The year we ran the Goofy Challenge I found my Minnie Mouse costume at a Halloween store weeks after. I’ve now used it for three races and for trick or treating with the kids. It cost me $15 dollars! Even if you don’t plan on racing this year, take a glance at what’s out there. If you find a great deal on something you might want to wear in the future, pick it up. It is very hard to find a costume in February or in April. It’s nice to have one on hand just in case. Happy Planning Friends.
