Keeping the Magic: Christmas Ornaments
It’s become a Christmas giving tradition in our household to gift Disney Christmas ornaments. The ornament that started it all was Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat. It was Christmas of 2012. We had seen this, what I thought was a tacky ornament, at our local Hallmark. I chose to not buy it, each of the stars on the hat lit up and it sang out the music from Fantasia. The day before Christmas we were at Hallmark picking up a few cards when my husband kept pressing the ornament and going on and on about what an amazing ornament it was. So I gave in and bought it to put in his stocking. To this day it is a focal point on our Christmas tree.
Years later, we are now gifting the kids Disney ornaments every year. MacKenzie has received some of her favourite characters, Elsa and this year she will receive Moana. Lincoln’s first Disney ornament came the Christmas before he was born. MacKenzie gave him, through the help of her Dad, a Mrs. Jumbo ornament that sings “Baby Mine” the lullaby I always sang to her and then proceeded to sing to Lincoln.
I love the variety of Disney ornaments you can find. The ornaments that play beautiful songs, the Mickey Mouse classics and my personal favourites are the Precious Moments ornaments. They are so smart, each year a new ornament is released and you know it’s a one time thing. So each year we look at our local Hallmark and select one for each child, and I’ll gift one to my hubby and he’ll gift one to me. Many years my Mom has got in on the fun, purchasing some very special ones that decorate our tree. Like Precious Moments Mary Poppins, to represent having seen Mary Poppins together on Broadway and Precious Moments Cinderella and Prince Charming, coined “So This Is Love”.
We all have our own favourites. MacKenzie says her favourite is the Anna, Elsa and Olaf ornament. This one was gifted last year, Christmas 2016, it sings “Do You Want to Build A Snowman”.
Lincoln’s favourite is the Mouseketeer Hat. This ornament was given to MacKenzie from both us and my Mom in 2014. We only kept one. It sings “Mickey Mouse Club March”.
Jeff, my husband’s, favourite is still the Sorcerer’s Hat. Even six years later, no Jack Skellington, Mickey as Bob Cratchit or Mickey wearing the Sorcerer’s Hat has replaced this special ornament. My current favourite is this Precious Moment Alice in Wonderland.
Every year I look forward to seeing our littles open their ornaments and Jeff open his. I have to admit that I also get very excited to see which one Jeff has selected for me. It’s a simple gift that gets enjoyed for years to come. Another way that Disney animates another part of our life. Merry Christmas Friends.
