How to get the Room you want on your Disney Vacation
You’ve saved, you’ve planned, you’ve researched. Lots goes into your Disney vacation planning. It can be a big let down if you arrive at your resort, check in and then find out you are staying in the building the furthest away from the feature pool, on the top floor, when you’re afraid of heights. To have spent all that time and money and not be happy with your accommodations is not what you want. Don’t worry, this does not have to happen. You are not at the mercy of your arrival time. Once upon a time, those guests who would have arrived on sight first could make a request and would likely get their wish fulfilled, but the later you arrived the less likely that was to happen. Now you can actually put your request in as soon as you check-in online through My Disney Experience.
On the Walt Disney World website, simply hover over the My Disney Experience tab. Your options will drop down, choose My Reservations. On this next window, all your hotel reservations and dining reservations will be listed. Click the button that says Update Check-In!
The next page will have a variety of choices, a place to update your mailing address, your pin for your MagicBand, you can decline your MagicBands here and this is where you can make your request for your room preference.
Click show details and then all your preference will be opened to edit. If you’re staying at a resort that has many buildings, you can request the building area you would prefer, as well as the level you would like. They break them down into ground floor, middle floor and upper floor.
On our last vacation, to test this procedure, we did not request anything for our first resort reservation. We were staying at Saratoga Springs, our home resort, and were put in the Carousel, the furthest building on the whole resort. It was a hike for everything. We were far from all the pools, far from a bus stop, we were looking at a parking lot. It was pretty sad. For the remainder of our vacation we requested upper level rooms and got our request at Boulder Ridge and Boardwalk Villas.
It’s a really easy thing to do, and many people aren’t aware of it, so the likelihood you’ll get the area of the resort you want is high. Not sure where that is? Take a look at the map of your resort. Look to find where the pool is and the main building, or where the quietest area is. Whatever your preference is. And then request it.
Happy Planning, Friends.
