Favourite Disney Toys: Mickey Mouse Shape Sorter
With Christmas only 4 days away, many of us are wrapping up gifts for our littles, loved ones, spouses and parents. Maybe some of us are still hitting the stores trying to find those last few stocking stuffers or purchasing the Disney toys on your Christmas list. Christmas can sometimes become overwhelming, with all the THINGS being purchased and money spent. Many times I’ve felt it’s all frivolous but I spent some time looking at the toys our children have in their playroom and realized that many of these toys have helped foster their imagination and have aided in teaching them their shapes, numbers and letters. One of these toys is the Mickey Mouse Shape Sorter purchased at Walt Disney World back in 2014.
This teaching tool has helped our kids learn their colours and their shapes. It also helped them grow in their dexterity, putting the shapes into their proper holes. This toy came with 2 blue circles, 2 purple stars, 2 green triangles and 2 red squares. For our enjoyment each piece had a little piece of Disney on it. With Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy on one set of shapes. Cinderella’s Castle, Tree of Life, Spaceship Earth and the Sorcerer’s Hat representing each of the Disney parks on the other set of shapes.
I spied this toy in the shop window of the Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A at the Magic Kingdom. I searched every shop at every park we went to, I learned on this trip to ask a Cast Member when you are searching for merchandise. On our last day I was told that they were sold out. I was extremely disappointed.
A few months later we were at our friend’s place and there was the Mickey Mouse Shape Sorter! They had picked one up on their trip to Walt Disney World a month after our trip. I told them our story and was told these shape sorters were all over the resort during their Disney vacation. I guess they were popular and restocked. My friend said her mom was heading down in March and would we like her to pick us up one. I am so glad we did because this toy has lasted. It’s still it great shape even after our dog has picked up many of the shapes in his mouth.
Unfortunately, Disney Parks no longer manufactures this educational toy. However, Melissa and Doug have a wonderful line of similar toys that can be found at a variety of locations, including Walmart and the Disney Store. They can also be found online: Walmart here and Disney Store here.
There are some toys that seem to have their hay day while others will stay in our collection for years to come. Whether it’s because of how much our littles love them, how much we love them or special memories that come along with them. This toy falls under each of these which makes me think it will be passes onto to someone very special. Merry Christmas Friends.
