Why We Aren’t Meeting Characters

During our last few vacations we have made meeting characters a major part of our days at the theme parks. When we celebrated our daughter’s birthday at the Magic Kingdom we met 7 characters through the course of the day. This vacation however we’re going to skip character meet and greets. There are several character meet and greet locations found at each and every park. For each parks list click the following links: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Here are the reasons we’re going to be skipping these character locations for this particular vacation.

Time

By skipping meeting characters we’re going to be gifting ourselves more time at the parks. More time on attractions, more time enjoying the unplanned magical moments, more time exploring. When you meet characters you have to wait in line, not as long a line as many attractions but a line none the less. On our last trip we waited 30 minutes to meet Buzz Lightyear. Do this 7 times and you’ve spent 3 1/2 hours waiting for characters.

Interest

This will be our daughter’s fourth Disney vacation, our son’s third trip and our youngest’s first trip. At this point we have a lot of pictures of our two oldest meeting all of these characters. Precious moments have been captured on camera to be remembered and shared. Our son will still be too young to create any of these moments of his own. So for this vacation we’ll steer clear of character meetings.

Character Dining

During the course of this vacation we’re going to 3 character dining experiences. We’re eating at Chef Mickey’s at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Garden Grill at Epcot’s The Land and Artist Point at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge resort. At each of these meals the kids will get a few autographs and snap some candid photos. We’ll meet 5 characters at Chef Mickey’s, 4 at Garden Grill and 4 at Artist Point. This will fill our character quota. The kids will get to see Mickey. MacKenzie will get to see a princess. That element of our Disney vacation will be filled.

I’m hoping this will free up our days at the parks. Creating a calm in the midst of the excitement and flurry of activity.
