Since the opening of Hollywood Studios the bread and butter of this park is its entertainment. Stage shows are in every area of this park. Street performers greet you upon entering the park, they’re entertaining guests along Sunset Blvd and stopping you on Hollywood Blvd. The purpose of this park is to entertain you. Whether it’s with the character experiences, live performances or nighttime spectaculars. Today’s blog is going to focus on all of these aspects of Hollywood Studios that are categorized as Entertainment under My Disney Experience. There is truly enough here to fill your day at Hollywood Studios. So don’t let the minimal attraction list deter you.
We’re going to break these down into a few categories:
Beauty and the Beast-Live On Stage
This stage show highlights the main aspects of Beauty and the Beast. With live performers playing Belle, Gaston and the villagers. The other main characters are larger than life representations. There are a few dance numbers, including a well choreographed Be Our Guest. The costumes are beautiful, although very 90’s. The amphitheatre is found on Sunset Blvd just before the Twilight Tower of Terror. FastPass + is available for this show. The live performance runs 5 times a day, with the final performance running at 5pm. The show runs approximately 20 minutes. No seat is a bad seat, unless you’re siting behind someone tall.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
Found in a theatre in the heart of Hollywood Studios, guests can enjoy a retelling of Elsa and Anna’s Frozen tale. It is told by two citizens of Arendelle and features Anna, Elsa and Sven. The primary songs are screened, with the words spelled out below so you and your group can sing along. This theatre is inside with comfortable seats. Giving you a much needed break from the standing, walking and heat. It’s a fun performance, lasting about 20 minutes. We loved it so much, we went twice. There are a number of performances throughout the day. Generally ten. You can get FastPasses for this stage show. Performances run hourly.
Indiana Jones: Epic Stunt Spectacular
This stunt show features stunt performers reenacting some of the most impressive scenes from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. This amphitheatre is covered and the benches are steel. It is still a very popular show, so if it’s a must do on your list get a fastpass. There are only a handful of performances throughout the day. Guests can participate in this stunt show, which requires a commitment for the length of the show. This show lasts closer to a half hour. It involves fire, fist fights, leaps from tall buildings. It’s a fun and impressive performance. You can find Indiana Jones: Epic Stunt Spectacular just past Echo Lake or past 50’s Prime Time Cafe.
Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Way
This stage show happens in front of the Chinese Theatre. Characters from both the good and bad side of the force are featured in this show. There is no seating for this performance so strollers are a must for littles. There’s also no shade, so try to see this early in the day or late in the afternoon. R2 and C3P0 are featured along with Chewbacca and BB-8. Darth Maul, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren also appear in the show. Don’t be mistaken, this is not a screen representation, these characters are there right in front of your eyes. Our littles loved it, it helped bring to life so many of these characters they’ve read about in stories. Any Star Wars fan will enjoy this addition to the Hollywood Studios entertainment.
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
This stage show has the most performances of all the shows at this park. It is also one of the shortest. Voyage of the Little Mermaid gives the highlights of this animated film. Featuring a little bit of puppeteering and some live actors. It is a little dark so some littles may get a little frightened. The show is put on in a proper theatre, so cushioned seats are enjoyed by all. Performances run from park open to park close, with the first performance starting at 9:40am. FastPasses are available if you want to make sure you don’t miss this stage show. Voyage of the Little Mermaid is located in Animation Courtyard.
From park open to park close, guests can meet the newest Star Wars droid at Star Wars Launch Bay. Located in Animation Courtyard, BB-8’s meet and greet is designed to look like you’re on a rebel ship. He moves around a bit and makes noise. He is up on a pedestal of sorts, making him tall enough to get good pictures no matter the age or height of the guest.
Found across the walk way from Star Tours and Backlot Express is this character experience. Currently guests can meet Olaf at this meet and greet. This is the only place you can meet this Frozen character on Walt Disney World property. The line is shaded but there is no entertainment for the littles in this line. Olaf is enjoying the summer of his dreams in this character experience. There is no Fastpass reservations for this character meet and greet.
Be prepared to be unnerved when meeting the latest Sith Master. He will share his wisdom and try to recruit you to the dark side. As you enter in to meet Kylo Ren you’ll feel as though you’re on a destroyer. It’s a must do for any Star Wars day at Hollywood Studios. This meet and greet location is found in Star Wars Launch Bay in Animation Courtyard. From park open to park close and no FastPasses are available.
Buzz & Woody
Meet Buzz & Woody across from Toy Story Mania! Guests will make their way through photo ops depicting Buzz and Woody’s many adventures together. You’ll meet Buzz and Woody, they’ll sign your autograph book and Buzz may even let you press some of his buttons.
My favourite character meet and greet from our last vacation! Meeting Chewy was totally surreal. He interacts with guests, he does not sign any autograph books but he will talk to you in the only way a wookie can. You can find Chewbacca at Star Wars Launch Bay in Animation Courtyard from park open to park close.
Meet the latest addition to Lightning McQueen’s team at the end of Pixar Place. She appears here from 10am until 8pm. Don’t expect any signatures. If you have a big Cars fan in your party, make your way to the resort Art of Animation where the whole Radiator Springs gang is waiting to get their pictures taken.
Found right out side their stage show, Disney Jr – Live on Stage!, three Disney Junior characters are available for meet and greets from 9:30am-6:30pm. Sofia the First, Doc McStuffins, and Jake are waiting to meet their favourite friends.
Mickey and Minnie
Directly across from Sci-Fi Drive In is Mickey and Minnie’s meet and greet location. Mickey is dressed in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice apparel and Minnie is ready for her big debut. Another excellent place to meet this duo. You’ll find them here from park open to park close.
Disney Movie Magic
This incredible projection show is found on the Chinese Theatre in the heart of Hollywood Studios. Old favourites are highlighted onto the building while epics songs are played over the sound system. Using the buildings alongside the theatre to show movie posters along with clips from long loved films, this nighttime show has so much to take in. A few of the films noted are Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, and Tron. If you’re taking in Fantasmic! you likely won’t make this nighttime show but it’s a great alternative if you’re doing 2 Hollywood Studios days or have seen Fantasmic! many times before. Disney Movie Magic happens 5 minutes before park close. This nighttime show does not occur during the holiday season.
This well beloved nighttime show is still wowing guests nightly. The 25 minute show includes live performances of Mickey Mouse trying to defeat some of the epic Disney villains as they try to take hold of Mickey’s imagination. Scenes from Pocahontas are reenacted, princesses and princes sail across the water. It’s got something for every member of your group. It does get a little dark in content, with fire and dragons. If you’re worried about your littles, have them watch it before you go to prepare them. It is still extremely popular so be sure to get there 30 minutes prior to show time. Check the park schedule the morning of to confirm the time. Sometimes it’s adjusted due to weather. FastPasses are available for this and there’s also a dinner package which gives you reserved seating.
Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular!
A must do for any Star Wars fan or anyone who is impressed by fireworks and projections. Disney combines sound, projection and fireworks to bring to life your favourite scenes and stories from the Star Wars saga. The sound is so good I thought and felt like Darth Vader was right behind me. The whole show makes you feel like your right in the middle of it. As fireworks shoot off from a number of locations to coincide with what’s being presented on the screen. It’s the perfect way to end a Star Wars Day at Hollywood Studios.
Citizens of Hollywood
Sit back and be entertained by these hilarious, one liner entertainers. In groups of two, three and sometimes 10, these actors are members of the Hollywood underbelly trying to make their name in the big city of the stars. Enjoy a few laughs and you may even be brought in to be a part of the joke or performance. They’re most often found on Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd throughout the day.
Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple
Young guests looking to learn the ways of the force can become young Padawans during this Jedi Training. Found outside Star Tours, young guests are taught the skills of the Jedi and will have to test their strength in the force against enemies. There are a number of these shows throughout the day giving guests many opportunities to watch or participate. Guests wanting to be a part of this training must be between 4 and 12 and must register at Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost. Registration opens at park open and is a first come first serve basis. Those who don’t want to participate or are too young can still enjoy by watching the training.
March of the First Order
Taking place throughout the day at Hollywood Studios is the March of the First Order. Captain Phasma marches her troops down Hollywood Blvd, checking for any rebel spies throughout the crowd. The stormtroopers are led to the top of the Blvd for inspection and then are marched back down to the entrance of Hollywood Studios. This takes place 7 times a day. Check your My Disney Experience app for specific times on the day of your visit.
If you hit all of these pieces of entertainment that is one full day. Pick out a few of the ones you really want to do to make sure you get to see them. Otherwise fit in the ones you can. Hollywood Studios may not have the amount of family friendly attractions that you find at Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom but it makes up for it in its entertainment. Happy Planning Friends.
