Disney World in February 2020

Walt Disney World is full of amazing attractions, stage shows and delicious food. But there’s also lots going on beyond the everyday offerings: special events, sporting events, exclusive parties. These events can affect your vacation and your days at the parks so be sure to check the dates of your vacation to avoid any disappointment.

Festival of the Arts

Epcot will be amassed in all things art. From paintings to sculptures, performances and delectable food. This festival will make Epcot a must visit for your vacation. It will also encourage annual passholders to come out during the festivals run. The festival begins January 17th and runs until February 20th.

The Culinary Arts

As a part of the Festival of the Arts, the culinary arts is being offered daily from 11am-9pm. There will be a variety of locations where you can enjoy dishes that are not just made to delight your taste buds but are also made to resemble pieces of art. Perfect for you instagramers out there, who love to snap and enjoy. Similar to the Food and Wine Festival there will be stations found throughout World Showcase offering special foods. You can pick up a booklet that will allow you to check off the items as you enjoy them.

The Visual Arts

Another element of the Festival of the Arts. Explore the art of Disney in Epcot open throughout the park. Learn from Disney artists and illustrators at seminars and professional workshops. Take pictures at special photo locations. What sounds the most fun to me are the participation events. With Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt, taking you around World Showcase looking for Figment in pictures found in the different pavilions. The Hands-On Wall Mural, where you’ll watch a giant mural come to life and you can add to it too.

Head to the America Gardens Theatre in the American Pavilion to watch Broadway stars share songs from the beloved Disney Broadway musicals. Three shows at 5:30pm, 6:45pm, and 8:00pm. Check out who will be performing during your visit

Disney Field Hockey Showcase

This field hockey showcase is for women and men’s league alike, U12, U14, U16 and U19 are all welcome to participate. The showcase will have many scouts in the stands, giving players a great opportunity to shine.

National Dance Team Championship

This championship hosts girls from junior high to high school. Expect many cheer teams around the park but also come and enjoy some of the high caliber performances from teams across the United States.

February 2nd and 6th

Early Morning Magic at Fantasyland

Purchase an Early Morning Magic pass along with your park admission and you’ll have access to Fantasyland from 7:45am until 9am. An hour before all other guests. There are only seven attractions open during this event: Peter Pan’s Flight, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, it’s a small world, Mad Tea Party, Under The Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid, Princess Fairytale Hall and the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train. To ride the Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train guests must be 38″. These tickets also gives you access to breakfast at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. To get full value for this event be sure to be at the Magic Kingdom entrance at 7:30am. I would suggest doing the rides first and then eat after. Main Street U.S.A. opens at 8am so if you are late for this event you may end up caught up in the congestion of other visitors. The cost for this additional event is $89 per adult and $79 per child.

February 3rd and 10th

Disney After Hours at Magic Kingdom

From 9pm until midnight, after the park closes, guests with these tickets will have three hours at the park with minimal crowds. There are limited tickets sold to the event to keep the numbers down and 25 of the attractions and character experiences are open. Plus you’ll have all the ice cream, popcorn and fountain beverages you can consume. Some of the attractions open are: Seven Dwarf’s Mine Train, Space Mountain, it’s a small world, Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise and so many more! The cost is $129 per guest or $95 if you’re an Annual Passholder or DVC member.

February 6th

Disney After Hours at Animal Kingdom

From 9:00pm until midnight, guests who purchased these Disney After Hours tickets have exclusive access to the Animal Kingdom theme park. With the attractions at Pandora open, Everest and DINOSAUR, there is plenty to do during the three hour open time. Throughout your time at Animal Kingdom you’ll have all you care to enjoy ice cream, popcorn, and fountain beverages. There will also be a special showing of Rivers of Light and the Tree of Life Awakenings will also be on display. The event costs $129 per guest ahead of time or $95 for DVC members and annual pass holders. Guests can actually gain access to the park at 7:00pm, giving you two more hours of play time in this theme park.

National High School Cheerleading Championship

This televised competition take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports with teams competing from high schools across the country. For two days you can head here with your family to take in some impressive tumbles, jumps, leaps and cheers that will entertain and impress.

Disney Villains take over Disney’s Magic Kingdom at this special ticketed event. Guest with these tickets will be in store for a frightful evening with a special stage show featuring Hades, Maleficent and Jafar. There’s special delicious snacks for purchase, minimal wait times on 20 attractions, and Maleficent the dragon will be trolling the park. The cost for this event is $145 and begins at 9pm, although guests can gain access to the park at 7pm.

DVC Moonlight Magic After Hours Event at Animal Kingdom

Disney Vacation Club members have the run of the Animal Kingdom theme park on February 11th. Members with passes to this complimentary event have access to a select number of attractions, special character meet and greets, complimentary snacks and a DJ dance party. The event officially gets underway at 9pm but members can check in at 6pm. Be prepared to get your tickets when they come available, get the details here on how to get tickets.

February 13th-17th

Diamond 9 President’s Weekend

This premiere fast-pitch tournament happens at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Teams 10U-18U are in attendance for this competition. You can check out any of the games during the weekend. Simply grab an uber or transportation from the All-Star resorts.

Twirl Mania International Weekend

This competition will not only take place at the Wide World of Sports but performers will be showcased in Epcot and down the streets of Main Street, U.S.A. This competition is like non other. With a variety of solo performers, pairs and groups performing acts that will leave you speechless.

February 13th and 19th

USA Competitions Presidential Classic

If you have a gymnast in the family they may appreciate a few moments to watch their sport on display. With competitors ranging from mid to high level and ages ranging from 5 to 18. You may even find yourself among some future olympians.

February 15th-17th

Disney Presidents Day Soccer Festival

For the soccer fan in your party, make your way to the ESPN Wide World of Sports to take in some competition on the field. This is an open registration so the caliber will not be as high as some of the other games that take place at this facility but who knows someone you know may be competing.

Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

February 20th-22nd

Race Expo

Make your way to the ESPN Wide World of Sports and peruse the vendors. Find exclusive runDisney merchandise and Princess Half Marathon weekend merchandise. Vendors will be selling running gear, electronics and highlighting racing series, there is a lot to take in. The expo itself is free. If you or any of your party are runners this is a great place to spend a couple of hours on a non-park day. Be aware you may end up spending some of your merch money here. When entering the expo check the guest speaker schedule you may be there in time to hear from an Olympian or get great training tips from an expert. The expo hours are:

Thursday: 10am until 8pm. Friday: 10am until 7pm. Saturday: 9:30am until 3:30pm.

February 21st

5k Race

5:30am Start Time.

Runners and walkers make their way through Epcot. Spectators can cheer these participants on at the World Showcase entrance at Epcot. Or you can head to the Finish Line. With the early start time and the short distance you won’t see runners around the area if you are planning on making this Friday an Epcot day. This race is sold out.

February 22nd

10k Race

5:30am Start Time.

This race runs through Epcot and past the Crescent Lake resorts. All racers will be done by 7:30am. If you are driving to Epcot on this day you may have a hard time finding parking due to the finish line. If you’re looking to cheer someone on you can simply head to the Beach Club or Yacht Club or Boardwalk resorts. This race is sold out.

Kids Races

Your youngsters can participate in the fun of race weekend. They can participate in the Diaper Dash, the 100-mile race or the 200-mile race. The one mile race is already sold out. These events happen on the track of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Each participant will receive a race shirt and medal.

February 23rd

1/2 Marathon

This race is the longest distance and therefore will end up affecting part of your morning transportation. Especially if you’re planning on doing an Epcot or Magic Kingdom day. The race makes it way through the Magic Kingdom at approximately 10km. Racers finish the race at the entrance of Epcot. There is a time limit so everything will be done and down by noon. Making it a better Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom day. If you’re looking to cheer on racers you can actually go to the Magic Kingdom and spectate on Main Street USA. Simply take the transportation from your resort to the race prep area. Walk to the Epcot monorail, disembark at the Ticket and Transportation Centre and board any Magic Kingdom Monorail. This will take you to the Magic Kingdom where you’ll have free entry to watch those runners and walkers race down that famous strip. This race is also sold out.

February 21st and 28th

Diamond 9 College Citrus Classic Week II

This competition features women’s fast-pitch baseball college divisions. There are teams coming to compete from all across the country for this highly competitive weekend.

2020 US Open TaeKwonDo Championships

During this weekend individuals will come from around the globe to compete. Women and men, age 10 to adult will be participating.

Contest of Champions National Dance Competition

This competition features dance teams from elementary school age to high school age. It is an open event so the first couple days may be a miss but the final days are sure to be full of impressive routines, costumes and performance. If you have a dancer in your party they’ll be sure to love an afternoon at this competition.
